The Charter Area
There are two main yacht charter bases in French Polynesia on
the islands of Raiatea and Tahiti.
Navigation inside the
lagoons is very specific and easy with marked channels. Stay in the
channels as it is very difficult and dangerous outside of them. Take
care anchoring as lagoons are very deep – only anchor in less than
30' of water on sandy, coral-free ground.
For mooring in
Tahiti, restaurants like the Bora Bora Yacht Club, La Pirogue Api,
and Hotel Hibiscus have their own moorings you can use. There are
some moorings in the Leewards, such as Bay Fa’aroa in Raiatea, but
you are responsible for checking if the rope is in good shape.
• Season •
The best time to visit Tahiti is between April/May and
September/October.
Tahiti has two seasons, with the wet and
warm season coming between November and April and the dry, cool
season between May and September (averaging 24°C/75°F) with the driest
months in June and August.
• Weather • Climate • Wind •
The Leeward Islands’
prevailing winds are easterly and southeasterly between 15 and 20
knots, increasing to 25 knots. With these conditions, the sea can be
choppy with a swell of 1-2m
The maraamu wind can blow June to August from the
southeast between 25 and 35 knots. Swells can reach 3m in open
waters and last for a few days. Passages from Bora Bora to Taha’a
can be uncomfortable, as there’s exposure to a large swell.

Day 1: Raiatea - Huahine [25NM] Located among the Society
Islands, Huahine caters for tourists with many activities available
and is a paradise for snorkelling and scuba diving, 4WD island
tours, historic and cultural tours and a visit to a distillery.
Huahine is famous for its sacred eels which guests can feed from a
bridge crossing the stream where they live.
Day 2: Huahine -
Tahaa [25NM] Accessed from nearby Raiatea, Tahaa is best known
for its vanilla and pearls, both of which are of high quality. It is
less modern than other Society Islands and is an excellent venue for
snorkelling and scuba diving. Other activities include visiting a
vanilla farm, pearl farm and day tours. French, local cuisines
and seafood are the main food available.
Day 3: Tahaa - Bora
Bora [25NM] One of the world's most romantic islands, Bora Bora
is an ideal sailing destination for honeymoons and wedding
anniversaries. Surrounded by golden sands and glistening turquoise
waters, it is a genuine premium holiday spot. The best activities
are water based and these include scuba diving, snorkelling,
paddle-boarding, rafting, kayaking, shark diving and many more. Dry
land excursions include island tours by quad-bike and 4WD. A boat
trip to the Lagoonarium is well worth it. Bora Bora has a number
of fine dining restaurants as well as others providing a wide range
of food including Sushi, French, European, Asian and other cuisines.
Day 4: Bora Bora - Maupiti [30NM] Located in the western
Leeward islands of French Polynesia, Maupiti is a beautiful coral
atoll with a volcanic island at its centre. It is the ultimate
getaway destination, devoid of tourist exploitation and development.
Here you can laze on soft, white sands, explore the perfect
turquoise waters and coral gardens by kayak, snorkelling or diving.
Day 5: Maupiti - Bora Bora [30NM] One of the world's most
romantic islands, Bora Bora is an ideal sailing destination for
honeymoons and wedding anniversaries. Surrounded by golden sands and
glistening turquoise waters, it is a genuine premium holiday spot.
The best activities are water based and these include scuba diving,
snorkelling, paddle-boarding, rafting, kayaking, shark diving and
many more. Dry land excursions include island tours by quad-bike and
4WD. A boat trip to the Lagoonarium is well worth it. Bora Bora
has a number of fine dining restaurants as well as others providing
a wide range of food including Sushi, French, European, Asian and
other cuisines.
Day 6: Bora Bora - Tahaa [27NM] Accessed
from nearby Raiatea, Tahaa is best known for its vanilla and pearls,
both of which are of high quality. It is less modern than other
Society Islands and is an excellent venue for snorkelling and scuba
diving. Other activities include visiting a vanilla farm, pearl
farm and day tours. French and local cuisines and seafood are the
main food available but a variety of European dishes can also be
had.
Day 7: Tahaa - Raiatea [21NM] Raiatea is known as
"Raiatea the Sacred" and is the second largest of the Leeward
Islands after Tahiti. It was once the cultural and religious capital
of eastern Polynesia, with Taputapuatea, a marae or sacred place and
UNESCO World heritage Site situated on the south east of the island.
It is thought that Raiatea was the starting point for the major
migrations to the Hawaiian Islands and New Zealand. Many tours
are available on the island including cultural, historical, 4WD
vehicle and archaeology. The crystal sea makes the island ideal for
water-sports. French and local cuisines and seafood are the main
fare available but a variety of European dishes can also be had.
Day 8: Disembark in the morning
